Food Security: KWSG Seeks More Collaboration

The Kwara State Government has again expressed its willingness to collaborate with investors for seamless implementation of its policy thrust in the agricultural sector.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas gave this indication during her recent visit to Olam Nigeria Limited, Ogbondoroko, in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
The visit is part of the present administration's drive in harnessing agricultural potentials for the development of the state.
Speaking during a top level management interactive session, the Commissioner said the state government would further improve the enabling environment through its investment-friendly policies to reduce hunger, create job opportunities for women and youths, as well as enhancing productivity of farmers and value chain operators for improved outcome.
Mrs. Thomas explained that the state government, through the Ministry, is planning to assist indigenous farmers with quality seeds and technical support in order to have improved yields during harvest.
She, however, commended the company's unwavering commitment to agricultural development and its contributions at reducing unemployment in the state.
In his response, the Managing Director, Integrated Feed and Protein, Mr. Amit Agarwal assured that the company would continue to strive for quality products.
"Olam is here to add value to products, in as much as we produce animal feeds, we always want quality and standard goods from the farmers and it is a win-win because if the farmers are not successful, our business will not grow", Agarwal stressed.
He appealed to the state government to devise urgent solutions to the increasing prices of both fish and poultry feeds for the sustainability of the sector in the country.
Also speaking, the Vice President - procurement, Mr. Mustapha Turra said the company will buy soya beans and other produce at the market price if the commodities are of international standard and quality.
