Why Agric Help Desk Was Created - Commissioner

The Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural
Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas has explained the rationale behind the creation of Agriculture Help Desk in the State.

Mrs. Thomas gave the explanation while featuring on OFM 92.5 popular Yoruba Radio Programme, "Ijoba Mekunnu", in Ilorin.

The Commissioner said the Help Desk would be domiciled in the Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters, with the objectives to assist farmers and other value chain operators in providing lasting solutions to the agricultural challenges related to financing and technical advisory support for improved productivity.

She stated further that the office is designed to be a one stop shop for farmers on the right information on inputs, chemicals, fertilizer, and other technical and advisory services with multiplier effect of increasing food production in the state.

The Commissioner added that the establishment of industrial park by the present administration is a proactive step, at creating enabling environment for investors and their business to thrive by ensuring seamless connection to raw materials producers and Agro-Industries in the state.
According to her, arrangement is in top gear to assist commercial farmers through purposeful partnership with relevant government agencies on land clearing to further boost food production in the state. 

Irrigation farming system, Thomas assured, would be fortified to ensure that all disadvantaged communities during the wet farming season were assisted through an all-year-round farming programme of the state government.

The Commissioner disclosed that the designated Help Desk Office has been instructed to register indigenous farmers in a cluster group, in order to make it more easier to know the kind of assistance needed by different groups in the state.

It would be recalled that the state government at the recently concluded Kwara Food Summit, announced the approval of Agriculture Help Desk, with a view to addressing existing challenges in the agriculture sector.
