The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthen the existing partnership with financial institutions to develop the agricultural sector of the State.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas disclosed this while receiving in audience the officials of Sterling Bank PLC led by the Company Head of Institute Banking, Mr. Badiru Apaokagi in her Office.
The Commissioner said the partnership is of great importance for a sustainable agricultural practices, and to further boost food production in the State.
Mrs. Thomas explained that the present subsistence farming practice can no longer sustained the Country and the need for paradigm shift to the modern method of commercial farming system is desirable.
She further stated that the present administration through the Ministry is planning to embark on a mass production of food through Private Sector - Community Driven Cluster Farming Initiative that would guarantee returns of farmers investment across the 16 Local Government Area of the State.
She assured the bank of the state government's confidence in their service delivery and their capacity to assist the farmers to breakthrough in their business.
In his response, the team lead, Mr. Badiru Apaokagi said their visit was to facilitate with the Commissioner on her new appointment and to also discuss the areas their bank can partner with the Ministry in removing all the obstacle hindering the progress of the agricultural sector in the State.
He stated that the bank believe in the capacity of the Commissioner to change the narrative of farming activities in the State.
In a related development, the Commissioner has advised youth Corp Members to embrace agriculture as one of the viable sector to solve the problem of unemployment in the Country.
Mrs. Thomas gave this advise during a courtesy call visit by the Agro-allied Community Development Group (CDS) under the National Youth Service Corps, Ilorin East Local Government of the State.
She enjoined the Corp Members to be a job creator rather than seeking for an unavailable jobs to solve the problem of unemployment in the Country.
In her earlier remarks, the leader of the group, Mrs. Daramola Banke said the CDS group want the Ministry to support them on their various programmes to assist the corp members in order to positively impact their host communities.
