Agric Commissioner Reaffirms Government Support for L-PRES Project

Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas has reaffirmed the state government's support for the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), with a view to addressing the challenges of food and nutrition security in the state. 

Mrs. Thomas made the re-affirmation during an interactive session with the State Project Implementation Team, held at the Ministry's Headquarters in Ilorin.

The project, the Commissioner said, and others, like Special Agro-Industrial Process Zone (SAPZ), State FADAMA NG CARES Project, and the National Programme for Food Security (NPFS), are testaments of the state government’s sustained efforts at making the state a model for agricultural development in the country. 

She assured that the present administration will leave no stone unturned by keying into all available opportunities in the agricultural projects in order to scale up agricultural production, productivity, and commercialization in the state.

Mrs. Thomas further charged the team to redouble its efforts towards the realization of the state government's objectives on the project for a prosperous Kwara.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Tpl. Ishiaq Yinka Oloruko-oba, advised the team to be more proactive while implementing the project for a perfect and timely service delivery.

In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, who felicitated with the Commissioner on her appointment, assured that his team would give full commitment to the project and make the state proud among the participating states.

He used the opportunity of the meeting to brief the Commissioner on the progress report about the activities of the team.

The 6-Year Project, whose Development Objectives, among others, include improve livestock productivity, resilience, and commercialization of selected value chains, and strengthening of the country’s capacity to respond to an eligible crisis or emergency.

The project will provide a long-term approach to developing and transforming the livestock sector in the country, and help to mitigate herders and farmers' conflict, among others.
