KWSG collaborates with Cadre Harmonise on Food and Nutrition Security
The Kwara State Government has pledged to continue to support the activities of Cadre Harmonise under the National Programme for Food Security. This is in order to ensure Food and Nutrition Security in the State and in the country at large.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado AbdulLateef Alakawa made the pledge at the State level analysis workshop organized by the Kwara State Cadre Harmonise Analysis Task Force, held at the Ministry of Health Conference Room in Ilorin.
Mallam Alakawa said that the present administration is leaving no stone unturned at ensuring availability of food for the teeming populace, as a basic need to human existence and the first layer of human security in the society.

The Commissioner disclosed that part of the strategies and deliberate measures to upscale the agricultural sector in the the state is the government's participation in the World Bank Support Programme such as Livestock Productivity and Resilient Project (L-PRES) and the African Bank's Special Agro-Processing Zones (SAPZ), and other development programmes geared towards enhancing the food security and livelihood of the people of Kwara State.
He assured the State Task Force and other relevant agencies of government that were present at the event, of the unwavering support of His Excellency Mallam AbdulRaham AbdulRasaq towards achieving Food and Nutrition Security in the State.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Cadre Harmonise, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye had disclosed that the programme is a an early warning tool developed with the aim of informing national, regional, and global food and nutrition crises prevention and management systems.
According to him, Cadre Harmonise involves intensive analysis of secondary data from different sources during the months of March and October, towards accessing and measuring food security levels in Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.
Mr. Oyawoye urged the State Government to continue the programme, stressing that the budget allocations would be used in food and nutrition security surveys, data collation and for capacity development of the state task force, since the analysis is very technical.
He also emphasized that the results of the Cadre Harmonise analysis are necessary and critical for decision makers, government agencies, development partners, humanitarian agencies, among others for precision interventions.

The 4-day intensive workshop had in attendance the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, Executive Chairman, Lower Niger River Basin, Nutritionists, Statiscians and Members of the State Technical Committee, among others.
