KWSG CALLS FOR SYNERGY AMONG AGRIC SECTOR STAKEHOLDERS

Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado AbdulLateef Alakawa and CEO HerVest, Mrs Solape Akinpelu.

The Kwara State Government has charged Stakeholders in agricultural value chain to work with the relevant agencies for the development of the sector in the country.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado AbdulLateef Alakawa, who made this assertion while receiving in audience the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) HerVest, Mrs. Solape Akinpelu noted that the call was imperative in order to surmount the challenges in agricultural related activities and its allied business.

Mallam Alakawa said the state government would continue to support and protect the investment of all legitimate investors towards the actualisation of the present administration's policy trust of the State in agricultural sector.

He further enjoined the organisation to ensure that community dwellers are well integrated into the programme to ensure proper protection and sustainability of the project pointing out that any programme that did not have a face for social responsibility is bound to fail.

He said the state government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, will ensure proper training and right orientation of the farmers on profitable agricultural practices.

In her remarks, the CEO and Co-founder HerVest, Mrs Solape Akinpelu had earlier updated the Commissioner on the activities and challenges of the organisation, especially with the Women farmers in the state.

Mrs. Akinpelu said HerVest aim to bridge the gender finance gap by providing the female farmers with access to credit, extension services and premium markets through a gender-focused lens.

According to her, HerVest has trained  over 500  female farmers across the state on good agronomy practices and financial literacy, adding that 50 hectres of land was cultivated each in Adabata, Asa Local Government, Omu-Aran in Irepodun LGA as well as in Kuchitagi in Edu LGA of the State.

She expressed her displeasure on negative impact of the climate change and the incidents of army worm on the output of the farm produce and inability of the beneficiaries to pay according to the terms of agreement.
