KWSG Trains Women and Students on Orange Flesh Sweet Potatoes.

The Kwara State Government, in conjunction with the Agricultural Development Project Office (ADP), have trained over 40 Women and Students on the processing options of Orange Flesh Sweet Potatoes into confectionaries.

The one-day training workshop, held at the Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters in Ilorin, had in attendance the principal officers of the Ministry, nutritionists, students and staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and ADP. 
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado AbdulLateef Alakawa said the training would add value to the state government's programmes on nutritious food security.

While appreciating the organizers of the workshop, the Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Agriculture Services, Mallam Alhassan Kabir Mohammed disclosed that the present administration would spare no efforts at ensuring availability of nutritious food and wellness of the people in the state.
He explained that the training would further help in eradicating poverty especially among women and youths in the state.

In her opening remarks, the Managing Director, KWADP, Dr. (Mrs.) Khadijat Ahmed disclosed that the training was conceptualized to address the prevalence issue of malnutrition in the country.

Dr. Ahmed, who is also a nutritionist, identified deficiency of vitamins in the body system as the major cause of blindness.
She appealed to well meaning individuals, Corporate Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, and government at all levels to join the campaign against malnutrition in the country.
