KWSG Commences Inspection of Livestock Special Intervention Projects

The Kwara State Government has commenced the inspection of Livestock Special Intervention Projects implementation across the State.

The intervention projects are the collaborative efforts of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development under the Federal Government's National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) due to the prompt payment of counterpart funds of the programme by the State Government.

The aim of the NLTP is to improve livestock value chain across the country and reduce herders migration as well as minimize constant conflicts between the farmers and herders.

Speaking at the Palace of Emir of Kaiama, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam AbdulLateef Alakawa told the Monarch that the state government's team was in Kaiama to assess the level of progress of the Special Intervention Projects in the area, and also receive royal blessing for a successful tenure of the present administration in the state.

"There are various livestock intervention programmes that are ongoing and some facilities being put in place for the good of our people here for proper Community integration, economic development and to ensure improved standard of living of our rural farmers, pastoralists and the host Community.

"There is no project that government can do any where if the environment is not safe and peaceful but the projects in Kaiama Community are clear attestation of the peaceful co-existence of the people of the Community due to the purposeful leadership displayed by our Royal Father", Alakawa said.

The Commissioner disclosed further that the ongoing intervention project are of paramount importance to the state government's ten-year Agricultural Master Plan, aimed at addressing the issues of food security and other factors hindering the production of food and livestock in the state.

Responding, the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Mu'azu Shehu Omar advised the state government to invest heavily in agriculture, as the major viable sector for empowering the people especially in the rural communities.

The Monarch, who is a retired Permanent Secretary in the State, appealed to the state government to enhance the capacity of the extension officers through regular training in modern methods of farming for the benefit of grassroot farmers in the state.

The Emir, while commending the state government's achievements in the agricultural sector, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the various developmental projects executed in the Community and assured him of their support in return.

The Chairman, Kaiama Local Government Transition Implementation Committee (TIC), Alh. Suleiman Yusuf said all the projects facilitated in the Emirate are of immense benefits to the residents of the Community and appealed for their smooth completion.

The facilities inspected at Kaiama Emirate include Milk Collection Centre, Feed Mill Centre, Animal Handling Centre and Primary Health Human Dispensary Centre, among others.
