Food Security: KWSG Meets Stakeholders, State Working Committee

The Kwara State Government on wednesday met with the Stakeholders and State Working Committee on Food Security in the State. The meeting is part of the move to deliberate on the strategy to improve the food production, strengthening the capacity of farmers and development of the agricultural sector of the State. The Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq while addressing the committee said the essence of the State Working Committee on food security is to bolster agricultural productivity as well as food security of the State. The federal government has disclosed its commitment to boost animal feed production by harnessing crop residues and increase investment in alternative feed resources, strengthen coordination of regulations and standard to mitigate challenges of the high cos of feed in the Country. The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Aliyu Abdullahi made this known at a state-level review of the draft National Animal Feed and Fodder Policy Document organized for Kwara, Kogi and Abuja in Ilorin. The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its commitment to making the state the food hub of the country. The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas made the reiteration while receiving in audience the delegation of China-Africa Economic and Trade Council and representative of the organized Private Sector in Ilorin, the state capital. The Commissioner disclosed that the investors' visit was a result of the state government’s investment drive in the agricultural sector. According to her, the state government had earlier sent a delegation to China with some other Nigerians on policies reform, tax policies, and learning about various reforms the People's Republic of China had undergone, which have gotten them to where they are today.
